KIKULETWA HOT SPRINGS (Chemka) an oasis of geothermal warmth

Short Overview
Experience a slice of local life with a visit to the idyllic oasis that is Kikuletwa Hotsprings. Better known as ‘Maji Moto’, this gorgeous geothermal spring is a popular playground with locals and international visitors alike.
The clear, turquoise waters of the Chemka Hot Springs that bubble up from underground. Surrounded by lush forest alive with birdsong and the call of monkeys, the Chemka Hot Springs is an ideal place to ease those tired legs after a strenuous ascent up Kilimanjaro or return from a long safari. They’re a little bit of heaven that’s perfect for refreshments, and those warm blue waters invite you to linger, swim or explore. Return refreshed, revitalised and relaxed.
You’ll depart from your Arusha or Moshi hotel and make the two-hour drive to Maji Moto. This scenic drive takes you off the tourist trail and offers a glimpse into local life: bustling markets, local farms, and the like.
You’ll then spend a few hours soaking in the pleasantly warm waters, swinging on the rope swing, relaxing in the sun-dappled shade of the trees, and feasting on local favourites such as chips maiyai (a French fry omelette) and nyama choma (BBQ).
After your fun in the sun, you’ll return to your lodge or continue on to your next destination.

LAKE CHALA

Lake Chala is a caldera lake fed by clean, cold underground streams from Kilimanjaro itself, and it’s renowned for its gloriously changing colours; from deepest turquoise to emerald green to azure and all colours in between. It’s a perfect place to relax and unwind and you’ve the choice of hiking the picture-perfect countryside around the lake, swimming in its sparkling waters (don’t forget your cozzie!) or kayaking across the border to Kenya. Or all three! It’s a day full of getting up close and personal to one of the greatest (and quietest) treasures of Tanzania.
Your day of adventure starts with a guided hike through the lush forest that surrounds this crater lake. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to spot playful primates and a variety of other animal and bird-life.
After soaking in the view from the crater rim, you’ll descend to the water’s edge where you can choose to take a dip, enjoy a canoe safari, or simply take out a good book and read in the serenity.
After a picnic lunch, you’ll make your way back to your hotel.
