Mount Hanang is an extinct volcano nestled in the Eastern arm of the Rift Valley, with an elevation ranging from 1,860 meters to 3,458 meters above sea level. This majestic mountain is home to a variety of vegetation zones, including montane forests, bushland, grasslands, thickets, and moorlands, providing a rich tapestry of biodiversity.
A Vital Water Source
The Mount Hanang Nature Forest Reserve is a critical water source, with five rivers and numerous seasonal streams that supply water to the neighboring Hanang District and Katesh. Within the reserve, you’ll also find Lake Basotugang and Lake Gendabi, two stunning soda lakes that add to the scenic beauty of the area.
2-Day Trekking Itinerary
Day 1: Journey to Mount Hanang
- Depart from Arusha early in the morning, embarking on an adventure toward Mount Hanang.
- Lunch at Katesh before beginning your trek.
- Trek to the Summit: Upon arrival, we will begin our ascent up Mount Hanang, taking in the diverse landscapes as we trek to the summit.
- Camp for the Night: At the top of the mountain, we will set up camp, enjoy a hearty dinner, and spend the night under the stars.
Day 2: Summit Sunrise & Return
- Sunrise at the Summit: Watch the sun rise over the magnificent Rift Valley—a breathtaking moment you’ll never forget.
- Picnic Breakfast on the Mountain: Enjoy a delicious breakfast while taking in the exceptional views from the top.
- Descent & Tarangire National Park: After descending from the mountain, we will drive towards Tarangire National Park before heading back to Arusha Town.
